SUCH SMALL HANDS

Squirrel? Mouse? Ants? Who eats an apple like this?

Who takes such small bites?

Today it is snowing.

TEETH + BIRDS + GHOSTS + ANTLERS

Advice spotted in an alley during the artwalk last weekend: Feel Love Not Money

Also spotted at the artwalk: collages by David Ruhlman, made of paint and beehives.

David is married to Rachel, a fellow fiction writer, so there were lots of writers at the opening of his new show, which speaks in a secret language of teeth, birds, ghosts, and antlers.

One of Esther's students is part of a print collective called Copper Palate, which is tucked away in an alley behind the pizza shop and the gun shop. The studio was packed. On one side Copper Palate printed on tee shirts and tote bags, whatever you set before them. On the other side a traveling print collective printed from woodcuts.

And above the pizza shop are a bunch of tiny studios where people paint and twist wires and play music and grow plants in defunct sinks. Esther and I took in the view from the fire escape.

The next day was Dawn's birthday, and it was a perfect day for a picnic in the park.

The aforementioned charming couple, Rachel and David, pedaled off early to take in some modern dance.

But for the rest of us there was still plenty of time for lounging

and pranks

and sunscreen and sunburns

and wild, brilliant little Sebastian

and learning all about the future through a deck of cards.

The future, it turns out, promises a great deal of amusement.

Happy, happy birthday to Dawn.
