I PLAYED THE GROUPIE

Brigid's band, Bela Karoli, is on a west coast tour. Their first stop was Missoula, and then they came here, for a show at Mars Bar.

Julie writes the songs, sings, and plays bass. Carrie plays cello and violin. Brig plays accordion and glockenspiel and sings, and James plays keyboard.

James is new to the band since their last tour.

On Friday it was raining, and Julie only packed skirts. I guess it is summer in most parts of the country. She was cold, so we hit a few secondhand stores.

No jeans in shop #1, but they had some great sunglasses.

Brigid left her googly eye hat here when she visited in December. It is excellent entertainment for our guests.

It stopped raining and we rushed down to Interlaken for a walk. Interlaken is one of my favorite places in Seattle. I found it by accident, on a run, and that first day I saw a boreal owl in a tree. It never disappoints.

The next day we went to the market. TS met us there.

The cherries were delicious.

The blackberries were pretty, but not quite sweet yet.

Then we took a ferry to Bainbridge, just to take a ferry.

James lived here for a couple of years. One summer he camped out on Bainbridge.

Then the band was off to Portland, and I went along.

And the sun came out for real!

And Adam lives there now. We all went to look at the roses.

All the roses smell distinctly different. These ones smelled like artificial peach flavoring.

James likes white roses best.

Looking at roses is exhausting. We had to nap in the sun.

Of course we had coffee at Stumptown, and James, Brig and I had a photobooth session.

"Overjoyed" was my favorite.

At Powell's they like Land-Grant, but they don't like our slow-paced publishing...

Myles gave Brigid and I a tour of their new digs--a lovely little house.

He also got new bike gloves.

In the basement they had this poster from an art show Carey and I were a part of way back when.

Just like visiting their old apartment, visiting their house is like going to a fantastic toy shop.

Myles even has his own office now.

I don't think marriage certificates look like this anymore. Too bad. I especially like the detail up top that looks like a man rowing a boat with a horse for a passenger.

While we were apart, Julie purchased a new pair of sneakers.

Then it was time for the band to set up for that night's show.

The venue was extremely strange. It seemed promising, but the sound was awful. Bela Karoli still sounded good, though.

They're in San Franciso now, and I am home.
