We took the ferry to Port Townsend to see what it's like out there, where the Sound meets the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
The rain is early this year, they say. They also say once it starts, it doesn't stop until spring.
THere was a film festival in Port Townsend, so there was a little extra bustle, but mostly it seemed like a quiet weather-beaten place.
Probably inhabited by the ghosts of lost fishermen and siren songs.
The ferry moves so smoothly that in the dark I didn't even realize we were moving until we were almost back to land.
I guess we are in the fire stage.
I anticipate the "abandon ship" stage arrives around Thanksgiving.
And rescue will be a visit to New Mexico and Colorado for the holidays. Muster, muster.
