Anton baked a cake for Rachel's shower.
Mat slept in.
I guess he has to squelch his natural punkiness every day.
Feenie is as lively as ever.
Rachel's mom and her sister, Lisa, flew in from Franklin, TN.
Keya was there. She's planning to complete her dissertation from a cabin on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan.
And Kim left David with Esme for a few hours.
I guess Rachel is afraid of cutting cakes; I never did get the story on that.
It was delicious.
David wrote on his card something about the darkness, surreality, and evilness of marriage, but I think Rachel's mom gave her the knives.
Kim gave her a penny, which apparently cancels the "sever the relationship" effect of a sharp wedding gift.
The walls at Mi Ranchito were decorated with paintings. Speedy Gonzalez was Tim's favorite.
I was partial to the warrior/dead virgin paintings.
I think this one was my favorite--the poor little deer.
We all went home to nap or work. Then Rachel, her mother and sister, the bridesmaids (and me, the party crasher) went out for dinner.
Along with her gifts, Rachel received a little dose of humiliation, though Lisa and the other bridesmaids demonstrated that they'll do a great job helping Rachel dress for the wedding.
Kate organized most of the celebration. She and Rachel are old college friends.
After dinner the poets and writers came out of the woodwork to help Rachel celebrate.
She was assigned the task of having all the candy eaten off her necklace/bracelet set.
Things were going well for Rachel until a strange man pulled too hard on her necklace and the elastic broke. (This is Richard, a strange man, but not the strange man responsible.)
This time David left Kim with Esme for a bit, but not for long.
We all went to Talayna's, where they have karaoke and the most mirror balls I have ever seen in one place. It's more then a little overwhelming.
It's still legal to smoke indoors in St. Louis, and the St. Louisans are taking advantage of it.
Talayna's had been remodeled (which I think means they added more mirrors and more mirror balls), and it was packed. Richard paid the DJ to squeeze in two people from our group--himself and Rachel, who were both apparently born for karaoke.
Congratulations Rachel and Nick, and best wishes.
