STRIP THE LINENS

Jason dropped me and my bike off in Buffalo so I could ride some new road back to the Ranch.

The ranches along Hwy 16 were beautiful, with huge trees. There are old sheep camp wagons here and there all over Wyoming.

Sonja disappeared into the hills for days, constructing a sun symbol of glowing stones. She invited us up to have a look, but we had to go at night to see the glow. Georgia, Jason, Lauren and I hiked up at sunset.

Then we had to wait for darkness, so we practiced for our new career as members of the papparazzi.

Lauren gives it up as the third Olsen twin.

Lauren had to leave a few days early because she had a show opening at The Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh . So we all cooked for a final meal together. Lauren contributed these beautiful shish-kabobs.

And Jason made her a lovely crown.

Sonja cooked up some veggies.

In parting, Georgie gave Lauren a glowing ping-pong ball necklace.

Being the only man around, Jason volunteered for grill duty. I think he burned his hand.

I made gazpacho.

Jason related his childhood near-death experience on a MacGyver-styled zip line. The story involved greasy pizza hands, a thirty foot drop, hot pink running shorts, knee socks, and his hysterical mother.

Another sheep camp! This one looks like they are waiting for the garbage man to take it away.

For Ross: The Story Library.

Lynn took us out for a goodbye lunch at the Waldorf A'Story cafe.

And we received our Jentel diplomas.

Georgia and I took a final hike in the Bighorns.

We were not brave enough or stupid enough to swim in this lake, although we seriously considered it.

Fording the creek proved enough baptism for us.

And then the Sheridan Wyo Rodeo...

I said goodbye to my friend Gray Kitty.

And threw my month's worth of hair clippings into Piney Creek.

Everyone left except Sonja and I. It was very sad and quiet.

So we rode up to DeSmet for a final swim. It had been extremely windy the day before, and it seems that the wind stirred all the cold water up from the bottom of the lake. It was so cold! But wonderful anyway.

Sonja did a huge drawing in her last couple of days.

We stripped the linens, washed the dishes, painted studio walls, vacuumed up moths, and drove away. And that was that.
